The agreement between you and the person who makes Moteru. It is short, because the product is small and does not ask much of you.
Moteru is made and operated by Nicolas John Scaife, a sole trader based in New Zealand, reachable at [email protected]. In these terms, we
and us
mean that person trading as Moteru, and you
means the person using the extension, or the company you use it for.
By installing Moteru or by subscribing to Pro, you agree to what is on this page. If you do not, do not install it, and uninstall it if you already have. New Zealand law governs this agreement.
Moteru is a Chrome extension that reads a creator’s public post numbers on Instagram, using the session you are already signed in to in your own browser, and ranks their posts against that same creator’s own typical performance. It runs on your machine. It has no account, no sign-in, and no server that receives what you scan. The privacy policy sets out the detail and can be checked against the extension’s own permissions.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the extension for as long as these terms hold. We keep ownership of the extension and everything in it. You may not resell it, rent it, republish it, take it apart to rebuild a competing version, or strip out the parts that check whether you have paid.
The free version reads roughly the 150 most recent posts for a creator and gives you outlier scoring, the trend chart, filters, the library, notes, tags and CSV export. It does not expire and it does not ask for a card.
Pro removes the depth cap, so a scan reads the full post history, and it scores against all-time baselines rather than a recent window. Pro is a monthly subscription at the price shown on the pricing section of this site at the time you subscribe.
A Pro subscription comes with a licence key you activate in the extension. One key covers up to three of your own devices. The key is yours to use, not to share or sell, and we may deactivate a key we can see is being passed around.
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service enquiries and handles returns. Your card statement will show Paddle rather than Moteru, which is normal and is not a duplicate charge.
Pro renews every month on the date you first subscribed, at the price you subscribed at, until you cancel. Taxes are added where the country you are in requires them, and Paddle works out and remits those.
You can cancel at any time from the receipt Paddle emailed you, or by writing to [email protected]. Cancelling stops the next payment. You keep Pro until the end of the month you have already paid for, and then the extension returns to the free version with your library untouched.
If a payment fails, Paddle retries it over a few days and tells you. If it keeps failing, the subscription ends and Pro switches off. Nothing you saved is deleted.
We may change the price of Pro. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will tell you by email before it affects a renewal. If you do not want the new price, cancel before that renewal.
Any Pro payment can be refunded in full within 14 days, for any reason or none. The refund policy sets out how to ask and how long it takes, and it holds whatever your local law says as a minimum.
You agree not to use Moteru to break the law, to break Instagram’s own terms, or to harass anybody. You agree not to try to lift the pacing limits built into it, or to run it in a way designed to hammer Instagram’s servers. Those limits are there to protect your account as much as anything else.
Moteru only ever reads, and only what your own signed-in session can already see. It does not sign in as you, does not ask for your password, and does not post, like, follow or message anyone. What you then do with numbers you have read is your responsibility.
Instagram is not our product. It changes without telling anyone, and when it changes Moteru can stop working until we catch up. Scanning is not an Instagram feature and Instagram does not endorse it. No tool of this kind can promise zero risk to your account, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you. Moteru is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
The extension is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will be available without interruption, that it will read every post of every creator, or that acting on what it shows you will make anything of yours perform better. It is a measuring tool, not a promise about results.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit, or for anything that happens to your Instagram account. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. If you are in New Zealand and using Moteru for personal rather than business purposes, the Consumer Guarantees Act gives you rights that these terms do not reduce. Consumer law elsewhere may do the same, and where it does, it wins over this section.
You can end this agreement whenever you like by cancelling Pro and uninstalling the extension. We can end it if you break these terms, and we will refund any period you have paid for and not yet used unless the breach was fraud or abuse.
We may also stop offering Moteru altogether. If that happens we will stop taking payments first, tell subscribers, and refund the unused part of the current month.
If these terms change, the date at the bottom of this page changes with them. A change that materially affects a paying subscriber will be emailed before it takes effect, and continuing to pay after that is how you accept it. If you would rather not, cancel.
Anything about these terms, your subscription, or a refund: [email protected]. A real person reads it.
